Camp Information

Science AL!VE is a not-for-profit education program based at Simon Fraser University. In the summer months of July and August, Science AL!VE provides science, engineering and technology focused summer camps for students completing grades 2 through 7. All summer camp programs include indoor and and outdoor activities. There is an emphasis on exploration of science, engineering and technology through hands-on activities, labs, games and week long projects. Science AL!VE Summer Camp at Simon Fraser University - Burnaby Campus:

Week long day camps will be running during July and August 2010. Camps run from 8:30am to 3:30pm; before and after care is available through SFU Summer Camps. Possible options for camp are:

Quark Camp

Students completing grades 2 & 3 $180

.The goal of Science AL!VE's Quark Camp is to introduce our youngest campers to the exciting world of science through various interactive, hands-on activities. Campers investigate various themes including zoology, physical chemistry, and volcanology with an emphasis on exploration and scientific discovery.

Nebula Girls

Students completing grades 4 through 7 $180

Nebula Camp is a unique learning environment that incorporates exclusive curriculum created just for girls! Topics include: optics, health science, and mechanical engineering. Taught by enthusiastic female scientists, this camp is designed to boost female participation in the sciences in an inclusive all-girl environment.

Electron Camp

Students completing grades 4 & 5 $180

Electron campers participate in a variety of activities building on prior knowledge and skills. Whether they are building and maneuvering robots using our Lego Mindstorms NXT sets, refining their laboratory expertise or exploring forensic science, our Electrons are always developing new knowledge and abilities.

Tech Camp

Students completing grades 4 through 7 $190

Don't miss out on your chance to register for our amazingly popular Tech Camp! Tech campers will explore the many fields of technology through research lab tours, specialized take-home projects and innovative high-tech challenges. Topics include: biomedical engineering, computing science, and mechatronics.

Ion Camp

Students completing grades 6 & 7 $180

Ion Camp focuses on week-long activities that challenge and encourage youth to draw connections between the sciences and the world around them. Ions are exposed to various laboratory settings through tours and activities, and experiment extensively with Lego Mindstorms NXT. Topics include analytical chemistry, electronics, the science of music and sound, and microbiology.

FAS Tech Camp Camps for Grades 7 - 12!

FAS Tech Camp (Students Completing Grades 7-9)

An exciting new camp hosted by the Faculty of Applied Sciences! Computing Science and Engineering professors will introduce you to robotics and artificial intelligence. Participants will build robots who will square off in the Battle of the Bots and race through the Great Maze! Your friends and parents are invited to watch the competition and join us for pizza on the final day. ($160)

Camp runs 12:30pm-3:30pm, August 9th-13th, 2010

FAS Tech Camp (Students Completing Grades 10-12)

Get a taste of the courses taught in the Faculty of Applied Sciences! In a series of hands-on workshops, Computing and Engineering Science professors will help you build hardware out of “logic blocks” and write programs using a graphical language. The final day is a pizza party where you can demo your final project for your friends and family. ($160)

Camp runs 12:30pm-3:30pm, July 12th-16th, 2010

**Camp content alternates. Camps weeks Jul5-9, Jul 19-23, Aug 3-6, Aug 16-20 are all "Alpha" curriculum weeks. Camp weeks Jul 12-16, Jul 26-30, Aug 9-13, Aug 26-30 are all "Beta" curriculum weeks. Please note that all Science AL!VE camps are nut-free environments. All registrations are processed through the SFU Summer Camps Office. Instructor to camper ratio is approximately 1:10.
