2020 May-June Classroom Workshop Topics

KINDERGARTEN - Fantastic Forces

Crash, boom, pow! This workshop will help students understand the forces that help keep our world running. Hold yourself to the ground with gravity, float with air resistance and master metal with magnetism.

grade 1 - matter matters

What do you, your house, and the sun all have in common? All of them are made of matter! Learn all about the different shapes and forms matter can take, some interesting things matter can do, and how matter changes. How much does matter matter? We’ll find out!

grade 2 - our changing world

Ever wondered where mountains come from? Lakes? Rivers? In this workshop we’ll explore the planet to learn about how the features of the land we live on came to be and continue to change. In the process we’ll discuss how humans have shaped the planet, for better or for worse.

grade 3 - brilliant biodiversity

Plants, animals, and fungi, oh my! We are surrounded by an incredible variety of life. Learning about life and the things it needs to flourish can help humans of all ages understand how their lifestyles impact the natural world. Integrates traditional and Indigenous knowledge of ecology and conservation.

grade 4 - spectacular space

Voyage to the final frontier! Learn how things are launched to space, how planets and stars interact with each other, how to identify stars in the night sky, and develop some space-age technology.

What if we told you you could lift 1000 pounds without breaking a sweat? You don’t need superpowers, just the power of a lever, pulley or ramp. Join us to find out how simple machines make huge improvements in our lives!

Be amazed by acids, polymerize plastics, and hang out with halogens in this chemistry workshop. We’ll learn how to tell the difference between a physical and a chemical reaction, do lots of amazing demonstrations of both and use chemistry to solve mysteries.

Powering up! Electricity runs our modern lives, from the lights in our homes to the computers in our offices. Take a closer look at electricity to learn about electrons and how they move, and how circuits can be manipulated in clever ways.

science al!ve stem workshops

Science AL!VE will be offering the following workshops this school year!

In May-June 2020 we will have our regular STEM workshops at the prices below.

If multiple classes from one school are registering, please schedule them to be on the same day(s).

Our workshops bring enthusiastic instructors to your classroom, to engage students in STEM and the BC Science Curriculum! We combine theory and application with interactive hands-on activities, experiments and demonstrations. Students are able to explore science, engineering and technology in a fun and interactive manner, while satisfying curriculum requirements.

Please note that due to material limitations, we are only able to provide two workshops of the same topic at the same time.
