Community Programs and Partnerships

To achieve diversity and inclusion in the field of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art design, and mathematics), we strive to empower those traditionally under-represented groups in STEAM by offering barrier-reduced programs to inspire youth to develop a passion for STEAM subjects.

We collaborate with non-profit and public organizations to provide high-quality STEAM education to diverse youth, including girls, Indigenous youth, Black youth, inner-city students, and more.

If your organization wishes to partner with us, please contact us at sciencealive@sfu.ca.

Community-School PARTNERSHIP With the sURREY SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Community Schools Partnership (CSP) initiative was established by Surrey Schools in 2007 to provide targeted programming, support, and resources to children, youth, and their families who face barriers to accessing programs and supports before, during and after school.  Community Schools collaborates in partnership with district departments, community agencies and partners to deliver enriching learning programs that are innovative and aligned with the BC Ministry of Education Curricular Competencies.

Throughout our 3 years of NSERC Promo Science funding, we delivered 12 cohorts of our Pathways to STEAM program at 12 schools in Surrey. Each cohort included 8 weeks of after-school programming followed by a 2-week Seasonal camp. Through this funding, we were able to deliver free STEAM programs to 434 participants.
